1. Acceptance of these Terms

By installing, opening, or using the Ingredient Checker browser extension or this website (collectively, the "Service"), you agree to these Terms of Use. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

2. What the Service does

Ingredient Checker analyzes cosmetic ingredient lists (also known as INCI lists) and returns information about each ingredient — including its safety profile, irritant potential, comedogenic rating (acne risk), and known fungal acne triggers. Results are presented as colored labels: green, likely safe, yellow, red, or unknown.

The Service is intended for general consumer informational use only and is not designed for professional, clinical, or medical decision-making.

3. How the database is built — please read

The ingredient database used by the Service is compiled from publicly available sources (academic publications, regulatory databases, community-curated datasets) and is assisted by automated tools, including artificial intelligence (AI). While we make a reasonable effort to keep it accurate, due to the nature of these sources and technologies, the database may contain:

• Mistakes, omissions, or outdated entries.
• Misclassifications caused by ambiguous or conflicting source data.
• Incomplete or incorrect AI-assisted classifications (AI outputs are probabilistic and may contain errors).
• Errors originating from third-party data sources that we do not fully control or independently verify.
• Ingredients we have not yet reviewed or rated.

You acknowledge that the data is provided "as is", without warranty of accuracy, completeness, or fitness for any particular purpose. By using the Service, you accept that errors are possible and you agree not to hold us liable for them.

4. Not medical or professional advice

If you have a skin condition, allergy, sensitivity, are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have any specific health concern, consult a qualified professional before making decisions about the cosmetic products you use. Do not use the Service as the sole basis for medical or health-related decisions.

5. You assume all risk

Your use of the Service, and any decisions or actions you take based on its output — including buying, avoiding, applying, or discontinuing a product — are at your own risk.

Cosmetic ingredient safety and suitability vary significantly between individuals depending on factors such as skin type, allergies, sensitivities, medical conditions, product formulation, concentration, and usage.

The Service does not and cannot predict individual reactions. An ingredient labeled as "safe" or "low risk" may still cause irritation, allergic reactions, or other adverse effects.

We are not responsible for any allergic reaction, skin irritation, dissatisfaction, financial loss, or other consequence resulting from a product you used, avoided, or purchased based on information from the Service.

6. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Ingredient Checker, its developer, contributors, and affiliates shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, exemplary, or punitive damages arising out of or related to your use of the Service or any inaccuracy, omission, or error in its data — including, without limitation, damages for skin reactions, health issues, lost profits, lost time, or any other harm — even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages.

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to accuracy, completeness, reliability, merchantability, or fitness for a particular purpose.

We are under no obligation to update, correct, or maintain the accuracy of the Service or its underlying data.

7. Limitations of analysis

The Service analyzes ingredients individually based on general data. It does not evaluate full product formulations, ingredient concentrations, interactions between ingredients, manufacturing processes, or overall product quality.

As a result, the analysis may not reflect the actual safety, effectiveness, or suitability of a finished cosmetic product.

8. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

• Use the Service in violation of any applicable law or regulation.
• Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract our source code or database in bulk.
• Send automated traffic, scrape, or otherwise abuse our servers.
• Repackage or redistribute the extension or our database without our written permission.
• Use the Service to harass, harm, or mislead others.

9. Intellectual property

The Ingredient Checker name, logo, brand, source code, and curated ingredient ratings are the property of their respective owners. The underlying ingredient data is sourced from publicly available datasets and remains attributable to those original sources.

10. Changes to the Service and these Terms

We may update, change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Service at any time without notice. We may also revise these Terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes means you accept the updated Terms.

11. Privacy

Your use of the Service is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which explains what we do — and don't — collect.

12. Regulatory differences

Cosmetic ingredient regulations and safety standards vary by country and jurisdiction. The Service does not guarantee compliance with any specific regulatory framework (including, but not limited to, FDA, Health Canada, EU regulations, or others).

13. Indemnification

You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless Ingredient Checker, its developers, affiliates, and contributors from and against any claims, damages, losses, liabilities, costs, or expenses (including legal fees) arising out of or related to:

• your use or misuse of the Service.
• your reliance on the Service output.
• your violation of these Terms.
